NIPFN Kenya participated in an exchange visit to Lao PDR to learn from each other’s sub-national roll-out experiences and gather insights for implementation in their respective countries on 12th to 14th November 2024. The exchange was also attended by representatives from NIPN Ethiopia and C4N-NIPN Global Coordination and included field visits to Salavan Province, interactive workshops, and group discussions to identify good practices, challenges, and lessons learnt.
The visit to Lao PDR aimed to foster knowledge-sharing and mutual learning among countries implementing the NIPN approach. Lao PDR has been a forerunner in integrating NIPN at the sub-national level, demonstrating how localized data systems can drive tailored nutrition interventions. Kenya and Ethiopia, both at pivotal stages of expanding their NIPN roll-out to sub nationals, sought to draw lessons from Lao PDR’s experience, particularly in decentralized data collection, analysis, and policymaking. Participants also explored opportunities for collaboration, enhancing advocacy strategies, and strengthening sub-national nutrition information systems.
This program demonstrates NIPN platforms’ commitment to fostering cross-country learning, improving the effectiveness of nutrition information systems, and promoting evidence-based policy decisions. The insights gathered will help to refine the NIPN strategy globally and increase its impact at both the national and subnational level.
